Wolfsong is the beginning of the Green Creek Series, the beloved fantasy romance sensation by New York Times bestselling author TJ Klune, about love, loyalty, betrayal, and family.

“Wolfsong is so well written that I'm in awe of TJ Klune's talent.” —Charlaine Harris
The Bennett family has a secret: They're not just a family, they're a pack. Wolfsong is Ox Matheson's story.
Oxnard Matheson was twelve when his father taught him a lesson: Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then his father left.
Ox was sixteen when the energetic Bennett family moved in next door, harboring a secret that would change him forever. The Bennetts are shapeshifters. They can transform into wolves at will. Drawn to their magic, loyalty, and enduring friendships, Ox feels a gulf between this extraordinary new world and the quiet life he’s known, but he finds an ally in Joe, the youngest Bennett boy.
Ox was twenty-three when murder came to town and tore a hole in his heart. Violence flared, tragedy split the pack, and Joe left town, leaving Ox behind. Three years later, the boy is back. Except now he’s a man – charming, handsome, but haunted – and Ox can no longer ignore the song that howls between them.
The Green Creek Series is for adult readers.

My Review
Let me start out by saying that The House In The Cerleaun Sea is one of my all-time favorite books, and I think everybody should read it. I found it to be completely heartwarming, and the found family aspect was perfection, in my opinion. Wolfsong was nothing like the beloved book I just mentioned. In fact, it was completely on the other end of the reading spectrum for me. Yes, it is fantasy, and yes, there is a found family trope in here, but I did not find it to be at all a cozy reading experience like the book I mentioned before that I absolutely loved. I am going to do my best to talk about this book, but Reader, I am not going to lie. I finished this book a while ago, and it was not my favorite. This is the first book in the Green Creek Series, and I am not so sure it is one that I will be carrying on with.
I am having a hard time thinking about what to write for this review so I am going to go about it a bit different from my usual layout. I am going to break it down into what I didn’t like and what I did like. There may be spoilers, so if that is something you don’t want to see, maybe stop reading here.
Things I did not like:
- Imprinting at the age of 10 from Joe to an older character Ox (6 years older)
- Jealousy and anger from Joe toward Ox because he was out dating, and Joe didn’t like that it wasn’t to him
- Extreme possessiveness and jealousy from Joe toward Ox when they are older and entering into a more than friends kind of relationship
- Repetitive talk like “Hey Joe” or “Hey Ox” was constant throughout the whole story
- Very descriptive sex scenes
Things I liked:
- There was a huge found family aspect, which was heartwarming
- Acceptance of one another
- The fact that friendship is huge in this story
- The descriptions of the settings
- Queer Representation
Types of Characters:
- Humans
- Werewolves
- Witches
Setting:
-Rural small town with lots of surrounding woods
I know that this book has a high rating on goodreads, but it just was not for me. This book was chosen for a book club that I am in, and I was so excited to pick it up because I enjoy a good, chunky fantasy story. I especially love ones where we follow the same set of characters throughout the years. This book should have been a hit for me, but sadly, it was not. I do want to say that I can see why people loved it, and maybe it would have been different for me if I had read it rather than listened to it, but I did not. Reader, have you read any of the books in this series, and if so, what do you think? I am sure you know by now I am always I am curious to know your answer. I do know one thing, though: this will NOT be my last TJ Klune book because I really do enjoy his writing, but maybe this series just isn’t for me. Until Next Time, Reader, Happy Reading.
