"Reading Hideaway is like a mini vacation, as Roberts transports you from the sun-drenched mountains of Big Sur to the rolling hills of Ireland to the bustling streets of New York City." - Associated Press

A family ranch in Big Sur country and a legacy of Hollywood royalty set the stage for Nora Roberts’ emotional new suspense novel, Hideaway.

Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star—yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide and seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared.

Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Dillon Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house—but when the teenager and his family heard her story they provided refuge, reuniting her with her loved ones.

Cate’s ordeal, though, was far from over. First came the discovery of a shocking betrayal that would send someone she’d trusted to prison. Then there were years spent away in western Ireland, peaceful and protected but with restlessness growing in her soul.

Finally, she would return to Los Angeles, gathering the courage to act again and get past the trauma that had derailed her life. What she didn’t yet know was that two seeds had been planted that long-ago night—one of a great love, and one of a terrible vengeance...

My Review

I absolutely loved this book. I finished it last week but have waited to update my Goodreads status because I wanted to be sure of my star rating. I figure that if it has been in my thoughts days after I have finished it then it definitely falls into the five-star category. I should also mention that I absolutely love Nora Roberts’s books. I love her writing style, her character development, and how each and every one of her books just sucks me into the story.

Hideaway focuses on the Sullivan family, a family that has worked in Hollywood for a number of years…generations in fact. The book description labels them as Hollywood Royalty and the author does a great job depicting that. The lives of the Sullivans seem so dreamy until Caitlyn also known as Cate disappears from a family gathering changing them forever. The story focuses on her journey throughout childhood and into adulthood. It shows how the trauma from that experience affects not only her but all the people that surround Cate in her life. One of the things that really struck me in this story is how down-to-earth the Sullivan family is with each other and with the people in the community. They seem to me like everyday kind of people just with really awesome jobs.

The book also follows a ranching family and the connection it has to the Sullivan family. It was interesting to read how different their lives were from Cate’s and how she managed to still fit right in with them. I found it interesting reading about how busy life on the ranch was and the amount of work that had to be done daily. I enjoyed meeting these characters and appreciated how Nora Roberts weaved them throughout the story.

I love how the author created twists and turns throughout the story always leaving me guessing. The setting was not focused in just one place but in multiple places and for a dreamer like me I appreciated that. This book has everything in it in my opinion well everything that I like such as mystery, romance, and murder as I said it kept me guessing. I believe that this book is a definite must-read for all Nora Roberts fans and anyone who wants to get sucked into a great storyline with some wonderful characters.
